The scariest Doctor Who story?

Since the series started up again in 2005, Doctor Who has dished out many a scary monster and episode in the bid to scare the youngsters of today. Some are classics pulled from the older stories like Daleks, Cybermen and Zygons. Others are new inventions like the Weeping Angels and the Silents. I believe it must be easier to put an older monster into a new episode if that monster appeared on Earth because clearly it travels or is found on Earth where the majority of episodes are based. One exception is the Macra who reappeared in 'Gridlock' thanks to some good writing. It was surprising because even though they are distinct, they didn't exactly make a lasting impression (but that could be because its first appearance in Doctor Who is lost).
What I am trying to say is unless it is very distinct, appeared in more than one story or appeared on Earth the likelihood of you meeting any other monster from the older series is very slim. The only way will be to watch the original story they were in.
Now I'm not discrediting the Weeping Angels or Silents, but I think their reappearances have made us too familiar with them. We remember they are scary but we are not so scared by them any more. Imagine how terrified of the Weeping Angels we would still be if they had only appeared in 'Blink'.
So for my scariest Doctor Who story I am harking back to a Third Doctor story called 'Death to the Daleks'. "Daleks" I hear you say, "we've had them silly". But I'm not talking about the Daleks. The title is 'DEATH to the Daleks' and I'll give you a clue...it is not the Doctor's doing. I think it is a simple principal. Something that is a threat to the Daleks is something to be feared. We have learnt in the new series that in actual fact, the Doctor is someone to be feared. So this leads me on to Exxilon.
Some people wonder how the Egyptians built the pyramids but are now a third world country. This is what happened to Exxilon but far more sinister. The native Exxilons built a living city but it became powerful, draining energy from everything for itself and its creators worshipped it. The natives make sacrifices to this city in the form of any trespassers which is common because the city drains energy from passing ships. The natives clothing can also help them camouflage as rocks on their barren planet. The city has a number of defence mechanisms too. It's rooted itself to the planet and...well see for yourself...

As a last resort to defend itself inside the city, it creates 'anti bodies' that look like this:

Reminiscent of the recent Time Zombies right?

 

So you have not only the Doctor but the Daleks too, both quite vulnerable, battling this planet. Why don't you take a look at the DVD trailer:

Out of all the stories I watched when I was little that scared me, this is the only one which has the exact same effect now. Even Horror Channel chose to show it for their selection of Doctor Who stories they are showing. I think the Third and early Fourth Doctors had the scariest episodes mainly because of who was behind the scenes. Phillip Hinchcliffe wanted a Gothic approach to the Fourth Doctors stories and Barry Letts wanted people to be scared of everyday objects (like Moffat does) and the Earth and it's politics. Horror Channel has picked out a majority of these stories to show on their channel for these reasons. Scary Doctor Who can be good.

End of Days

So the other day I was watching Big Questions (or something like that) and the question was something like 'is the end of days imminent?'. This was from a Christian perspective with them talking to Christians of various beliefs and sceptics to oppose. I was cringing when the arguing was going on but also when they weren't answering the question that Nicky was asking them which was what will happen after Jesus comes back? They kept sidestepping it and trying to explain what is happening now is corresponding to what is foretold will happen before Jesus' imminent arrival. One of the sceptics then put them all down on the basis that we don't have a time scale or date as to when this will happen. The answer to that is no one will know. Jesus says in Matthew 24:36 "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father".

My response to all of this after a little thought is why does it matter? Why do we need to know when this will happen? Do people want to know so they can do all the things they want to? Or so they can grow stronger in their faith or actually become Christians? Because in all honesty, not that I don't want more people to become Christians but, no. There are plenty of ways to prove to people that God and Jesus exist already you just have to talk to someone and ask. And when you get to heaven you won't care if you didn't do everything you wanted to because you will be with God and nothing else will matter. The second coming will be set in stone just like any other death so nothing can change it. People get deadlines at school and work and don't meet them so why do  people think having a deadline for the second coming will change anything. Christians shouldn't respond by false prophesying for the sake of these sceptics either as they will suffer for it. I believe people should work to help today and live for God, or however else they wish to live, and not be focussed on the end of days as it can distract you from your true mission which as a Christian is to make disciples but not through fear for your life.

P.S. Ana Johnsson

I suddenly thought after writing the article about Ana that it might be nice to include a top 5 songs. As you know I manage sailormoonshine (which is my YouTube page that I post my sailor moon fanvids to) and I like Ana so much that in some of my videos I use her music so I'll post any of them here too. So here is my top 5:

I really like all of them though. Of notable mention as I didn't mention it before is her collaboration with Fireal called Fate which was the song for Jade Warrior (which I hope to watch one day).

I Am

There's a song I really like by Hilary Duff called I Am. Some of the lyrics contradict themselves (which is the point) and one line is actually "I'm a million contradictions, sometime I make no sense, I am all extremes,..." And I wanted to highlight this to you because that's what I am too. The three contrasting 'labels'/features about me are that I am a Christian, I am childish and I am an adult. From these I have developed different interests which being childish and a Christian combine nicely and no one would judge me for it but I guess if I revealed some adult interests , people might be shocked and judgemental. Honestly I would just love to talk about some of my interests and wanted to explain it first. I have said before that I want to be myself and to show myself on this blog and I always preach integrity which I am saying I still have completely. We all have interests like this but I feel as a Christian I am judged to be uncool and different to other people when really I am the same as anyone else I just try to live a life for God too. My adult interests do go against this but nobody is perfect. I know I love God and God loves me for who I am.

Ana Johnsson

My first artist post is Ana Johnsson.

I suppose she is the first artist I picked of my own free will rather than hearing her music on the radio, not saying I didn't hear some of it first though. I even picked her as my artist to talk about in German class.
She is a Swedish artist and if you have heard anything by her the likelihood is that it was 'We Are' which was her song for the Spiderman 2 movie (it was my first song too).

If you imagine that 'Hero' was the song for the first one, you're not far off getting the vibe for her song.
However her style is varied and different over her three albums like any other artist for that matter.

Her first album 'Cuz I Can' is quite a typical foreign person singing English songs quality but it has some empowering songs like 'The Way I Am' and 'Cuz I Can' (later renamed to 'Coz I Can'). 'What is a Girl To Do' was an anthem for me at times when I was having boy crushes but 'Crest of the Wave' and 'Anything Goes' soon relaxed me whatever was happening.

 

 

Her second album 'The Way I Am' was an international rerelease of her first but with some old track omitted and new ones included. 'Don't Cry For Pain' was the new empowering song and 'I'm Stupid' was the new boy crush song however on the Japanese release it had a song called 'Black Hole' on it which I love. 'Black Hole' doesn't appeal to me relationship wise just like 'Crest of the Wave' did even though the lyrics insinuate partnership. 'Black Hole' would probably be a good song to help you get on your feet when you're numb but I just love it as an anthem.

 

Her third, most recent and my favourite album is 'Little Angel'. It is FULL of gems.
'If I'm Not Dreaming', 'Days of Summer', 'What If', 'Exception', 'Burn', 'Still', 'The Harder We Fall' and 'Playing God' support my idea that the best time to listen to any of Ana's songs is with the setting sun as it has that orange glow. 'Break Through Time' has really spoke to me especially with me moving a way from where I grew up: 'Another town, another place, a chance to start all over'. But 'Coming Out Strong' is my ultimate favourite Ana song! It's hard to explain why so have a listen!
 

 

At the moment her music is on hold due to her personal life but I really hope she makes some more beautiful and empowering music soon ☺

Run Rabbit Run...

...run to me! Okay so in Autumn it was foxes (no thanks to Ylvis) but now my fascination is with rabbits otherwise known as bunnies. So far I have only bought a pair of earrings and a scarf but there shall be more!!!

The Country Life...

So what is it like for me living here in the countryside? Well we seemed to have picked the best part of town as we are only a 5 minute walk from the centre but also have farmland behind us. Already I have seen rabbits and a partridge and I've heard a pheasant so all that's left now is a hare and then I have my perception of a country field fulfilled. There are plenty of Buzzards, Meadow Pipits and Skylarks in the sky which helps to fuel my love of nature. We've been very lucky with the weather and are seeing butterflies, bees and daffodils out and about as well as blossom trees which I love thanks to their great appreciation in japan. Everyone is polite here, mainly gentlemen adhering to the 'Ladies First' rule and people saying thank you for the nice deeds you do which because of their appreciation you actually want to do more of. The other day I went back to Dunstable, Milton Keynes and Luton and by the end of the day I was crying "I'm a country girl...get me out of here!" Not looking back and regretting it one bit!
